Condition: VERY GOOD. Paperback original - first printing. An important anthology, published during the height of the Black Arts Movement, with contributions from over 120 poets representing the global African diaspora. The poems are arranged chronologically by the authors' birth years, but as the subtitle indicates, they trace back to three major regions. Those from the US range from early historical poetry through the Harlem Renaissance to the Civil Rights era and the Black Arts Movement. Among them are Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Jupiter Hammon, Langston Hughes, and Jean Toomer; Gwendolyn Brooks, Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, Ishmael Reed, Bob Kaufman, Etheridge Knight, and many others. Those from the West Indies/the Caribbean focus on anti-colonial struggles, and rhythm of the islands with selections from Claude McKay, and Andrew Salkey (Jamaica); Edward Kamau Brathwaite (Barbados); : Martin Carter (Guyana) and Derek Walcott (Saint Lucia) and more. The African section includes writers from newly independent nations across the continent, primarily writing in English or translated from native idioms: from Nigeria: Wole Soyinka, Christopher Okigbo, and Gabriel Okari; from Ghana: Kofi Awoonor and Kwesi Brew; from South Africa: Dennis Brutus and Keorapetse Kgositsile and from Gambia: Lenrie Peters, to cite just a few. Introduction and brief biographical comments on each poet by Breman. Alphabetical and geographical indexes. 552 pp plus 8 pp publisher's ads. Very good in illustrated wrappers (some scattered marginal notations in pencil, lower corner sligthly bumped).…

A catalogue of 100 antiquarian items (books, ephemera, etc.) relating to the architecure of London circa the reigns of George III and George IV. Ben Weinreb was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire on February 5, 1912 and worked in bookstores and the theater in his youth. He began to specialize in architectural books in the 1950s and opened his first regular shop across from the British Museum in 1960. He sold his entire stock to the University of Texas in 1968 but continued as a book and print dealer for a short time. He collaborated with Christopher Hibbert to compile The London Encyclopedia (1983), a reference book of that city's history and culture, and provided text to accompany his son Matthew Weinreb's photographs for London Architecture (1993). Weinreb's sixty inventory catalogues are still used as important reference works to architectural publications. He died in Henton, Somerset on April 3, 1999. Clean, tight contents but with general shelf soiling to covers and a bump to lower spine of entire booklet.…
