It was founded by a group of gentlemen who gathered to establish a private members club upon the London principles. The club's purpose is purely social, and no business may be conducted within its premises. The club house, designed by Leonard Terry in Renaissance Revival style, is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register and is significant for its aesthetic, architectural, social, historical, and scientific importance. The club's garden, established shortly after the site purchase, includes the largest plane tree in Victoria and has both aesthetic and botanical significance. 532pp This book is quite heavy so may incur extra postage than quoted.
