Paul de WAILLY (1854-1933), compositeur 3 lettres de jeunesses - il a 17 ans - autographes signées, adressées à son ancien professeur le romancier et publiciste Joanni d'ARSAC. 1) 2 pages et ½ in-8, Bruxelles, 1871. Traces dancien montage au pli. À la suite de la lecture du livre de son professeur Mémorial du siège de Paris, Paul de Wailly évoque les événements de la guerre francoprussienne : « Après avoir cru que la tempête politique qui sélevait sur notre malheureuse patrie était apaisée de nouveau locéan se gonfle et lhorizon sobscurcit. De nouvelles pages sont venues sajouter à celles que vous nous avez offertes sous la lecture duMémorial de Paris ». Il a apprécié ce livre dont il a fait la propagande et poursuit : « Si ces tristes événements continuent, je ne sais pas, si je rentrerai à Arcueil ». Il évoque une anecdote concernant Mme de Clermont Tonnerre qui a dit ce quelle pensait à des Prussiens qui logeaient chez elle et qui lavaient conviée à dîner. 2) 2 pages et ½ in-8, sans lieu, 1871. Traces dancien montage au pli. Dans cette deuxième lettre, Paul de Wailly évoque un « affreux malheur » de la Commune : le massacre des Dominicains d'Arcueil (soupçonnés daider les Versaillais, cinq dominicains du couvent d'Arcueil et huit laïcs sont tués) : « La perte du p. Captier me paraît surtout irréparable ». Il poursuit sur la situation : « Nous avons été évacués hier par les Prussiens, hier pourtant jen ai encore aperçu quatre. Des dragons français (O bonheur !) doivent arriver jeudi ». Il demande enfin quand létablissement dArcueil rouvrira. Il est joint une lettre autographe signée de 2 pages in-12, sans lieu, ni date, dans laquelle, il remercie son professeur pour lannée écoulée ainsi que pour sa bonté et la confiance témoignée « dans une circonstance dont vous devez vous souvenir ». Il lui manque cinq exemptions pour racheter une retenue Paul de Wailly devint la même année, élève de César Franck. Attaché au classicisme musical, il fut néanmoins un ami d'Erik Satie.
