Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Bogin, Louie (Louis) (illustrator). In Yiddish. 80 pages. Illustrated. 22 x 15.5 cm. Minor discoloration to edge of boards. Front hinge partly exposed. Labzik is a dog story by Chaver-Paver (Gershon Einbinder), who managed to make 1930s leftist politics engaging and funny to students of the International Workers Order's Yiddish shuls. Not surprisingly, in one of the illustrations, on page 43, a portrait of Lenin decorates a room's wall, Neve mind that he was one of the biggest mass murderers in modern history. Chaver Paver was the pen name of Gershon Einbinder, who was born February 8, 1901 in Bershad (in today's Ukraine), moved to Romania at age 19, and in 1924 he settled in the United States. He lived in New York and then in Los Angeles. He made his debut in Yiddish literature in the 1920s as a children's writer, wrote five volumes of children's stories and several plays, but the majority of his literary works were stories and novels for adults.
