Condition: Very Good. 2nd Edition. 2 vol., Nouvelle Edition, Second Edition of Journal historique d'un Voyage, 18 engraved folding plates and maps, a fine copy in full contemporary mottled calf, gilt spines with contrasting labels, 8vo, Paris: Saillant & Nyon, 1770. A very fine copy in an attractive contemporary binding. "At page 89, of Vol. II., the Abbe has made a division of his work, which he entitled 'Observations on the Straits of Magellan, and on the Patagonians.' This is the only part of the two volumes which entitles it to a place in our category of works on the aborigines and is very meagre in its details. A large folding plate gives its testimony to the great stature of the gigantic inhabitants of Patagonia. It was translated into English, and printed in London in 1771, under the title of 'Bougainville's Voyage.'" Field Field 1200; Sabin 60996.
