Original full wjite buckram binding with gilt blocked letterpress titles to the spines and front covers. Top edge gilt. Very finding binding with no fading or dis-colouring. The text margins and pages foxing as often with this set but the plate images and most tissues are clean. Each plate is full page and printed on quality white paper with a tissue-guard. Light bumping to the corners, one corner with light wear to the cloth. Boards a little age-toned, with a small stain to the front cover of volume 1 and light foxing to the endpapers, else a very good and clean set in tight and square bindings. 300 full-page plates in colour afre drawings by Mrs. Henry Perrin, with text and notes by Professor Boulger, F.L.S. Uniform matching first and only edition hard back binding in publisher's original ivory white buckram covers, gilt title and author lettering to the spines and to the front covers, top edges gilt. 4to. 12½'' x 10¾''. Hand written number 469 of 1000 Limited Edition copies. Contains 300 fine tissue-guarded chromolithographed coloured botanical plates after the water-colours of Mrs. Perrin. The author and the artist express their objectives in the preface 'It attempts to be scientifically accurate as far as it goes, while expressed in language as little technical as possible, so as to be readily intelligible to the non-botanical reader. The object has been to supply a few interesting notes descriptive of the plants delineated and their allies, with such reference as space permits to their geographical distribution, physiology, cultivation, folk-lore, and uses.' Bindings very slightly darkened by age to the spines, but otherwise a pristine, possibly unopened set of this fine early 20th century flora. Nissen BBI 1509.
