Fragile page edges; marginal dust soiling to title; contemp. name at head of title. Original boards much worn and detached together with first and last few leaves. Last few leaves have an old tape stain along inner margin, presumably from an attempted repair. A binding copy of a scarce title. After his imprisonment Montgomery found work in Sheffield. He wrote for the Sheffield Register newspaper which he later re-named the Sheffield Iris. A prolific writer, Montgomery is probably best remembered now as the author of the hymn 'The Lord is my Shepherd'.
