Hans Christian Andersen wurde als Sohn des verarmten Schuhmachers Hans Andersen (1782-1816) und der alkoholkranken Wäscherin Anne Marie Andersdatter (ca. 1775-1833) geboren. Nach dem Tod seines Vaters ging er mit 14 Jahren nach Kopenhagen und bemühte sich, dort als Schauspieler zum Theater zu kommen. Nachdem ihm das jedoch nicht gelang, versuchte er sich ebenso vergeblich als Sänger und verfasste schon erste kleine Gedichte. Die Märchen erschienen bereits um 1840 in unterschiedlichen deutschen Übersetzungen. Angelehnt an dänische, deutsche und griechische Sagen und historische Begebenheiten, dem Volksglauben verbunden und inspiriert von literarischen Strömungen seiner Zeit, schuf Andersen so die bedeutsamsten Kunstmärchen des Biedermeier. Andersens Märchen sind nicht nur zeitlos; sie gehören mittlerweile zur Weltliteratur. Weniger bekannt sind viele seiner 156 weiteren Märchen. Auch die autobiografischen Texte, Novellen, Dramen, Gedichte und Reiseberichte, die von seinem Schaffensreichtum zeugen, führen ein Schattendasein. Auch als Romancier ist Andersen kaum bekannt: 1835 erschien sein erster Roman "Der Improvisator", den er während eines Italien-Stipendiums schrieb, 1848 "Die beiden Baroninnen", eine Waisenkind-Geschichte. In den dreißiger Jahren des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts fand der junge Dichter in Deutschland größere Anerkennung als in seinem eigenen Vaterland. Bjerke Petersen". Les livres provenant de la bibliothèque d'Alberto Giacometti sont rares. Vilhelm Bjerke-Petersen (1909-1957) est un peintre plasticien et théoricien danois. En 1938, le Dictionnaire abrégé du surréalisme le salue comme "le promoteur du mouvement surréaliste dans les pays scandinaves". Fondateur de la revue Linien avec Eiler Bille et Richard Mortensen en janvier 1934, Bjerke-Petersen se brouille rapidement avec ceux-ci à propos de son ouvrage Surrealismen. Ces derniers défendent le surréalisme abstrait alors que Bjerke-Petersen en propose une version figurative. En janvier 1935, Bjerke-Petersen en collaboration avec le suédois Erik Olson organise l'exposition internationale Kubisme-Surrealisme dont le catalogue sera préfacé par André Breton. Animateur de la revue Konkretion, il publie sa profession de foi "Pourquoi je suis surréaliste" dans Cahiers d'art, et participe avec ses amis aux expositions internationales de Londres et de Paris.
