Barbin), translated by François Petit de la Croix, however, some sources attribute the translation to Antoine Galland, the French translator of the Arabian Nights, which was published three years earlier. Provenance: Valentine de Laborde (18061894), wife of Gabriel Delessert (Prefect of Paris Police), muse of Prosper Mérimée. . Binding restored at hinges. Engraved frontispiece missing.
