Hardcover. Condition: Befriedigend. Oktav. Halbpergamentband der Zeit. Titelblatt mit Druckersignet, (8), 317, (3) Bll. Blatt 222 mit handschriftlichen Eintrag. Insgesamt gutes Exemplar, nur Titelblatt wurmstichig. Alessandros Vellutellos Commentary was first published in 1525 and was more successful than the other Cinquecento`s commentaries. Velutellos commentary is extremely original as it completely changes the original numbering that Petrarch gave to his poems based on biographical and geographical considerations. He wanted to recreate the identity and life of Francesco and Laura.

Octavo. . 416, [4, index] pp. The final leaf, a blank, is present. Woodcut device on title-page. Contemporary stiff vellum with gilt olive morocco spine label. Title-page a bit soiled, some light marginal stains, but overall a very good, attractive copy. First Italian translation of De Remediis Utriusque Fortune, a collection of 254 dialogues on how to live one's life in the face of both good and bad fortune, originally written in Latin. The dialogues, written toward the end of Petrarch's (1304-1374) life, are known for their wisdom and humor and for their lucid and elegant style. They enjoyed strong popularity in France and Germany, as well as Italy. They were translated into English as Phisicke Against Fortune (1579) by the Elizabethan physician Thomas Twyne.
