The author, born 1824 in Berlin MA taught for most of her life and was "a zealous Chautauquan"; see Carol Slafter: A Record of Education: the Schools and Teachers of Dedham Massachusetts, 1644-1904 (Dedham Transcript Press, 1905; p.240). Green pebbled cloth with gilt to front. 1908 gift inscription to front free endpaper. Superficial scars to page 14, mirrored on 15 where paper from 14 has adhered; else unmarked in sound binding.
