Signed, as is usual, on the lower left of the envelope "Mahon". Also dated and addressed to Richard Ford in his hand. Together with 2 newspaper cuttings of Stanhope obituaries. Very good. Philip Henry Stanhope, 5th Earl of Stanhope [1805-1875], styled Viscount Mahon between 1816 and 1855, was a British politician and historian. He held political office under Sir Robert Peel in the 1830s and 1840s but is best remembered for his contributions to cultural causes and his historical writings.From the autograph collection of Mrs. Mary Ford, widow of Richard Ford who wrote the popular "Handbook for Travellers in Spain".
