Hardcover. Condition: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 28 x 27,2 cm, Hardcover, 144 pages, 120 color illustrations - Born 1958, Patrick Weidmann lives and works in Geneva. His work today consists mainly of photography and writing. Back in the early 1980s he associated photographs with objects, but over the past 20 years his work has come to be centered on representing them. While his early "combined photographs," as they could be called, included objects of a fetishistic nature (such as chains, for instance), he later chose depicted objects to incarnate fetishism. He brings this dimension of the commodities that surround us to the fore in images depicting a Jacuzzi, an airplane seat, an electronic circuit, a soft toy, a cross-section of a car, or some random techno-style setup, framing the image so as to accentuate its fragmentary nature, itself characteristic of photography. In addition, as Joerg Bader puts it, "his handling of light worthy of a marketing handbook, with cascading reflections and a clear preference for reflective surfaces is a significant tool in persuading us that we live in the realm of commodities, in a world that is so mercenary that it now fills the entire life of everyone on the planet ".…

Softcover. Condition: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. …

Hardcover. Condition: New. Patrick Weidmann (born 1958) explores fetish as a property of both objects and of photography. His photographs of Jacuzzis, an airplane seat or a soft toy deliberately overindulge in advertising rhetoric, and then sabotage it through disorienting strategies such as extreme cropping. This is the first survey of Weidmann's photography.…

Hardcover. Condition: New. A superbly selected A-Z glossary of utopian structures, zones and acts in art and beyond, Utopics is a guide to artistically "living otherwise"-whether through imaginative design solutions (Andrea Zittel, Lang & Baumann), artist republics (Ian Hamilton Finlay's Little Sparta, Robert Filliou's Republique Geniale), temporary utopias (Atelier Van Lieshout's AVL-Ville) or extraordinary spaces (James Turrell's Roden Crater) and situations (Rirkrit Tiravanija). Also itemized here are potentially utopian entities such as bees, islands and squats, plus more theoretical forays such as Rudolf Steiner's educational philosophy and Buckminster Fuller's utopian proposals. Sporting a wraparound poster dustjacket and bound in a glittering night-sky cloth, Utopics shows that by acts of creativity both intimate and epic, and by locating the nooks at the perimeters of society, the strictures of contemporary living can be fruitfully sabotaged.…
