The Belgrade Gambit is an aggressive line that derives from the Scotch Four Knights Game: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. d4 exd4 5. Nd5 White s most common move after 4exd4 is to recapture with 5. Nxd4 but Nd5 allows white to transition into the Belgrade Gambit. As with many less known gambits, the Belgrade gets much of its advantage from your opponent not being familiar with how to play correctly as black. Condition: Lightly soiled, corners gently bumped else very good.

When playing the Bird Opening, white often wants to embark upon a strategy of controlling the central dark squares and perhaps later launching a Kingside attack, bolstered by white's natural territorial advantage on this side of the board that he has staked out on move one! As with many openings without any early central pawn tension, both sides have numerous possible set-ups and a large degree of flexibility in the Bird Opening. White has some set-ups where he fianchettos the light bishop and places it on g2, for example, and black has some off-beat setups of their own. Condition: Edge wear, corners bumped else very good.

The Scotch Game, or Scotch Opening, is a chess opening that begins with the moves: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 Ercole del Rio, in his 1750 treatise Sopra il giuoco degli Scacchi, Osservazioni pratiche d anonimo Autore Modenese ("On the game of Chess, practical Observations by an anonymous Modenese Author"), was the first author to mention what is now called the Scotch Game. The opening received its name from a correspondence match in 1824 between Edinburgh and London. Popular in the 19th century, by 1900 the Scotch had lost favour among top players because it was thought to release the central tension too early and allow Black to equalise without difficulty. More recently, grandmasters Garry Kasparov and Jan Timman helped to re-popularize the Scotch when they used it as a surprise weapon to avoid the well-analyzed Ruy Lopez. Condition: Corners bumped, rubbed and creased, edge wear, lightly soiled else very good.
