Being one of the most popular and beloved figures in Great Britain, Wilfred Pickles is always in great demand. Apart from his broadcasting, writing and stage work, he gives unstintingly of his off-duty hours to personal appearances in aid of charity. For a long time he and Mabel, his devoted wife, had promised themselves a real holiday, but as invitations and work poured in it was always a case of " This year, next year. . . " However, in the Suring of 1951, Wilfred and Mabel managed to tear themselves away and take a well-earned twelve days' rest. SOMETIME NEVER is the result, and thousands of his fans will welcome this warm-hearted book. It is the story of that holiday, of how Wilfred and Mabel, away from the bright spotlight of fame, could enjoy a brief spell of privacy. Ranging over a multitude of memories and visits, Wilfred buttonholes the reader with a trip to Stratford-onAvon, his views on actors, recollections of early days in Halifax, correspondents, and friends he has made from dukes to dustmen: The blunt Yorkshireman with the twinkling eye is at his lovable best in this racy yet sympathetic book.
