Exterior chemise to…ned and worn along spine with one-inch loss at spine foot; a Good to Very Good example of a very fragile artist's book. Inscribed and signed by the artist inside upper chemise cover. Collection of thirty-two caricatures of French political dignitaries by the Polish-born Jewish-French illustrator Louis Mitelberg (1919-2002), who often published under the pseudonym "Tim." A member of the French Resistance working from London during World War II, Mitelberg was naturalized in France after the war and built a career around making fun of the new, post-Vichy class of French politician, especially "le Grand Charles" de Gaulle, whose long sad face appears in this collection. OCLC locates just two copies as of August, at the BNF and Lafayette College.
