L'ouvrage fut imprimé pour la première fois en 1594 à Châlons-en-Champagne chez Claude Guyot.Pierre de Gommer, seigneur de Lusancy et son frère François habitaient le manoir…de Lusancy, se livrant aux douces occupations de la campagne, à la chasse au faucon et au tiercelet d'autour, dans un pays des mieux situés pour cet exercice, sur les bords de la Marne dans les environs de Meaux.« Le livre de Pierre et François Gommer De l'autourserie, imprimé à partir de 1607 pour Jean Houzé à Paris, s'inscrit dans cette veine, mais traite exclusivement de la chasse au vol avec les autours, comme son titre l'indique. Dans son avis au lecteur, Gommer stipule qu'il rédige son livre « [ . ] transportez plutost de passion, ou de particulieres volontés, plustôt que par contemplation de raison ». Il traite, dans ce livre divisé en 35 chapitres, de la nature des autours et des éperviers, de leur entraînement, de leurs soins, ainsi que des remèdes qu'il faut savoir maîtriser pour les garder en bonne santé » (Maurizio Ruiz).Une figure gravée sur cuivre à pleine page. L?emplacement de la seconde figure est resté vierge, comme le signale Thiébaud. La figure gravée varie selon les exemplaires : dans celui-ci, c?est le tiercelet d?amour, comme dans celui de la BnF.
