Brunet III, 824; Mennessier de la Lance II, p.45.Édition originale, second tirage à la date de 1621 avec le beau titre gravé à l'adresse de Claude Morillon, de ce rare ouvrage d'équitation abondamment illustré.Il s'agit du premier volet d'une série prévue de quatre ouvrages consacrés aux chevaux et à l'équitation, dont le dernier n'a jamais été publié. Cet ouvrage se distingue par ses chapitres consacrés à l'entraînement des chevaux à des fins militaires, notamment pour les habituer au bruit et à la fumée des tirs. Comme le souligne Mennessier de la Lance, La Noue décrit l'utilisation d'un ou de deux poteaux en dressage, environ trois ans avant Pluvinel, à qui l'on attribue généralement la première publication de cette technique.On n'a que très peu d'information concernant Pierre de La Noue : « Gentilhomme et écuyer français, fin du XVIe et commencement du XVIIe siècle. Duplessis dit qu'il appartenait à une famille qui eut plusieurs écuyers du Roi aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles, mais qu'on ne sait rien de sa vie. Je n'ai pas été plus heureux que cet auteur, et n'ai pu découvrir aucun document biographique sur La Noue. On sait seulement qu'il n'avait aucune charge de cour, car il dit, dans sa Lettre aux Cavaliers qui forme la préface de son premier ouvrage : « ie ne dois pas, comme petit oysillon que ie suis, quitter la paix du village pour m'enuoler plus promptement que prudemment à la félicité de la cour ». » Mennessier de la Lance.Ce bel ouvrage est illustré d'un titre gravé par Jacob van der Heyden et de 42 magnifiques planches gravées sur cuivre dans le texte.Charnière supérieure usagée, cependant bel exemplaire lavé à l'époque de la reliure, aux armes du comte Pierre de Mornay Soult de Dalmatie (1837-1905), ensuite marquis de Mornay-Montchevreuil, petit-fils du maréchal Soult, avec sa devise « Arte et Marte ».
