New quarter leather with paper over boards, title label with gold text, and raised bands on spine. Small stain near bottom of fore edge, barely penetrating into margins of first few dozen leaves. Early ink owner s name, and penciled dealer s price, on title page. Title page trimmed slightly into text at fore edge. Early ink owner s signature on blank rear of one plate. Final leaf with marginal stain, and a few small marginal tears, far from text. One rather vulgar pencil notation scrawled on the blank version of one plate. Otherwise a clean, bright, and tight copy. 136 engravings, and 52 lithographs, in color and blank and white, of anatomy, pathology, and surgical procedures and instruments, with accompanying explanatory text. The plates are really exceptional, surpassing many that are found in textbooks dedicated entirely to their respective topics. Surgical anatomy, surgical instruments, plastics, orthopedics, obstetrics, urology, and more are beautifully and accurately rendered. Not in Garrison-Morton, Waller, or Heirs.
