Cloth. Condition: Fine. Richly illustrated philososphy-light manuscript, with colorful "naive" illustrations throughout. Folio, leporello format, 40 by 28 cm when closed. Extends out to 1,590 cm. 61 pages of content (including title, table of contents). The manuscript follows the progress of a traveller as he passes through twenty stages of development on the way to perfect wisdom. The text combines mixes ideas from human development theory with Buddhist philosophy to outline the evolution of consciousness. The theory propounded in "On Wisdom Road" is that the development of consciousness is a fundamental condition of being human, yet a process that is experienced differently by each individual. The text is written in a decidedly non-calligraphic cursive, as if written by a child, and this seems quite deliberate, and in keeping with the naive artwork. Pliny in his artwork also employs what he calls "Change Notation", a visual system he himself developed for contemplating life experiences. The symbols used in this system are explained at the end of the book. The medium used for the illustrations is pigment and acrylic inks, as well as some gold leaf. Signed by the artist.

Condition: Fine. Whimsical modern illustrated manuscript with a philosophical bent. Disarming, very colorful illustrations have a folk art-ish, outsider arty quality. Generally the illustrations are mounted cut-outs, with color accenting to text done directly onto the pages. The text is done in what we presume is a deliberately child-like cursive, always easily legible, yet defiantly non-calligraphic. Meanwhile musical notation runs through the illustrations as an unifying motif. Closed, 43.5 by 21.5 cm. 8 panels (or pages). Extends to 210 cm. The text is a string of ideas that seem to hover between philosophical profundity and nonsense. There is an element of pseudo-science and an Eastern philosophy vibe, both of which are easy to digest and fun here, and together work wondrously with the illustrations. The creator uses acrylic inks and a ballpoint pen, as well as high quality drawing paper. He writes about this manuscript: "I reflect on conditions that strongly influence how I think about, and there experience, my world. . [My] style of illustration and the concise, easy to understand text invite readers to approach my philosophically oriented themes with a light-hearted openness. In my experience, I've found that it is just such an attitude that best inspires personal growth." Drawing of a "cartoon" character mounted onto front cover. Hardcover. Paper pastedown on boards. Leporello.
