The plates mainly show fossils which are mostly well-preserved, but also include profiles and localities (photos). The fossils shown are mainly brachiopods, bivalves, gastropods, and corals. Up to plate 12 the plate numbering is Roman, the following have Arabic numbers. Small stamp in the top margin of the front free endpaper recto; light creasing to a few leaves, otherwise very good, clean, and complete.

Moore, a Scottish cartographer, chart seller and educator with a somewhat controversial reputation, was accused of copying a chart of the coasts of France, Spain and Portugal drawn up by William Heather. The case was heard before Lord Kenyon with the prosecution led by Erskine; the jury quickly found for the defendant despite Kenyon's balanced instruction.
