Quarto. 52pp. About very good in beige printed wraps with chipping to the spine and extremities, a crease to the rear corner, some general waviness and foxing to the pages. The National Institution for the Promotion of Science, which was later absorbed by the Smithsonian Institute, was the original storage facility for exploration artifacts, natural specimens and any objects from politicians, patents models and other various amassed by the government. The collection later formed the basis for the Smithsonian Institute collection. This copy is Inscribed by the committee to President James Buchanan, then a senator and the chairman of the committee on foreign relations. Poinsett was the Secretary of War under Martin Van Buren and the botanist who brought the poinsettia back from Mexico and gave it its his name.
