London, Her Majesty's Stationery Office, 1883. 4to (29.2 x 24.6 cm). Title page, (i), 76 pp.; nine lithographed plates, several with additional printing in blue. Contemporary half morocco over marbled boards. Spine with gilt ornamental bands and title. Brown endpapers. = A rare part from the famous Challenger Reports. It deals with the calcareous sponges (or "Calcispongiae") and includes many well-illustrated new species, mainly from deeper water. Written by the Russian spongiologist Nikolai Nikolaevich Poléjaeff (1857-1903). Single parts, such as this one, were not published in "official" green linen bindings, therefore, bindings may differ. Despite some rubbing to the spine and boards, this is a nice one. Text with a few pencil marks; stamp removed from title; otherwise a very good, clean copy. Nissen ZBI, 4754.
