Su vida artística estuvo ligada a la restauración, siendo autor del tratado "Arte de la restauración", obra clave de referencia en la materia hasta bien entrado el siglo XX, y del "Tratado de la pintura en general", publicado en 1886, entre otros estudios sobre colecciones privadas, iconografías o retratos. 96 páginas (las primeras XIV, paginadas en cifras romanas), 2 hojas.
