Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Over the course of the 20th century, West Virginia contained an impressive diversity of movie theatres--ranging from multipurpose auditoriums in company towns to early nickelodeons and from ornate, urban picture palaces to neighborhood movie houses and suburban drive-ins. In the state's working-class areas, as well as in upscale districts where industry barons lived, residents came together to find amusement and relaxation in these invaluable venues. Many of these theatres have since disappeared from the landscape, while others sit vacant or have been converted for other uses. Some, however, have been reopened or restored. They proudly provide their communities with entertainment today, whether showing films or hosting the performing arts. They serve as catalysts for local revitalization and as success stories showcasing the value of historic preservation. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Comb binding. Condition: Fine. First. From the estate of Williamsburg's late chief archaeologist Ivor Noel Hume. 37-numbered and letter-size pages bound with a plastic comb in cardstock covers and section dividers. This plan outlines the schedule, staff, goals, budget, etc., of the research that led to the discover of the original James Fort. Hume served as the chief archaeologist of Colonial Williamsburg from 1957-1987. He was the author of more than 20 books and innumerable professional articles. Hume was born in London and studied at Framlingham and St. Lawrence Colleges. He served in the British Army during World War II before pursuing a career in archaeology. He came to American in 1957 after nearly 10 years on the staff at the Guildhall Museum in London. Throughout his long career he established the importance of archaeology in describing the social and economic life of those who left behind the artifacts uncovered. In America, Hume is credited with discovering one of the earliest English colonial settlements at Wolstenholme Town. What we know today about the life of the early British colonies in America is because of Hume's tireless efforts to tell the story of it's inhabitants.
