First Edition, First Printing. SIGNED by Diane di Prima on the title page. The poet's memoir of the first three decades of her life, written in her easy, conversational style. Di Prima (1934-2020) tells about growing up in Brooklyn and then getting involved with the Beats in Manhattan. She was a founder of the New York Poets Theatre and edited The Floating Bear literary journal. Di Prima writes frankly about her relationship with LeRoi Jones (who later became Amiri Baraka), and the various poets and artists in her wide circle of friends. A terrific memoir by a poet who lived life on her own terms. PHYSICAL DETAILS: Small Quarto (9.25 x 6 inches; 235 x 155 mm), 423, [1] pages, in paper-covered boards, gilt titles to spine, in a photo-illustrated dust jacket (hard cover). CONDITION: Spine ends lightly bumped, some wear and curling to dust-jacket edges, with a bit of crinkling at spine ends. Fine in a Near Fine dust jacket.

Softcover. Condition: Near fine. First edition. A paperback original, inscribed to Diane di Prima on the title page; "For Diane, 'the tribe is loyal.' Love, close to your birthday, Anne Waldman." A great association between important women poets in the predominately "boy's world" of the Beats. Waldman was part of the "Second Generation" of the New York School and became deeply connected with poets like Allen Ginsberg (who once described Waldman as his "spiritual wife"); she went on to help found the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics in Boulder, where di Prima and Ginsberg both taught. Di Prima was among the Beats from the start and edited the influential Floating Bear newsletter with her then-husband LeRoi Jones, who later took the name Amiri Baraka. She was eventually honored as the poet laureate of San Francisco in 2009. Kill or Cure includes both prose and poetry from Waldman, including "credos, manifestos, dreams, homages to literary predecessor." A very near fine paperback with just a bit of lift or flare to corners.

Hardcover. Condition: Near fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. First edition. An association copy: Diane Di Prima's copy with her ownership signature at the top of the front free endpaper. Di Prima and Duncan were friends and both significant poets in the San Francisco Renaissance and Beat poet scene. Di Primawrote of her friendship with Duncan:"Robert used to come and hang for days, he'd move into my house in Marshall in the '70s, and bring his French mysteries that he was teaching himself idiomatic French from, and his notebook, and he'd stay for days. And he always came to Christmases with the kids, because Jess doesn't like holidays, and so I'd have to say mid-'70s, through '75 on, he was there many weekends, many mornings . . . . Eating fried herring from the bay for breakfast." A near fine copy with a little rubbing to lower board edges; in a very good jacket with some creasing to rear panel and wear to corners and spine ends.

Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+. First trade edition. From the library of Beat poet Diane di Prima, with her signature on front free end paper. Di Prima and Ginsberg met during the mid-1960s. They went on to become two of the most famous poets of the Beat Generation. Di Prima and Ginsberg were both Buddhists, making this work -- written by Ginsberg during his travels through South East Asia and titled for the Hindu-Buddhist temple complex in Cambodia -- of particular interest to her. Very good, dust soiled at top of text block, corners lightly bumped and some uneven fading to boards, in a good plus priced dust wrapper, shelf worn, creased and with a few chips at spine tips, rear panel soiled and with some staining. Morgan, A14(a)2, pgs. 23-24; Dowden, pgs. 15-17. A nice Association.
