Condition: Good. Pablo Picasso (illustrator). 4to. Cloth in dust-jacket. 480pp.The first edition of this catalogue was published in 2002 and contained 446 pages. This new edition contains 480 pages. 78 works have been added and there are over 200 updated or revised entries. The main sources for new works are auction catalogues from American, English, French, Swiss and German auction houses. Picasso's heirs are the primary consigners of newly catalogued works that are sold at auction. There are also drawings that Picasso drew spontaneously for friends, acquaintances and strangers. Some of these are drawn directly into books about the master, normally on half-titles or title pages. During this period the master created linoleum cuts, many of which he would rework as watercolors and drawings. This new edition provides new details from the Picasso Project catalogue of the linocuts, which was published in 2012.

The first edition of this catalogue was published in 2004. This new edition adds works that have come to light since 2004,as well as references to subsequent public sales and exhibitions. This new edition has 404 pages, twenty more than the first edition, as wellas eight new color plates.Fifty-five of the new works in this edition originated in two sketchbooks from 1970-1971.The first of these is sometimes referred to as the Birthday Sketchbook, since the first work is dated on the master's 89th birthday, October25, 1970. The last is dated April 26, 1971. The sketchbook contained 27 drawings and was acquired by François Lachenal in Paris. Asubsequent owner consigned the whole sketchbook of Christie's, who sold the individual pages in London on June 23, 2005.The second sketchbook is referred to as the Berggruen Album, since it was acquired by the prominent dealer Heinz Berggruen, whoselegacy is the Berggruen Museum in Berlin. This sketchbook contained 26 drawings and manuscript dates on the two covers. The wholesketchbook was first published as a facsimile by Berggruen's son John, a dealer in San Francisco, in 2004. An exhibition was held at JohnBerggruen's gallery in early 2004 on the occasion the publication of the facsimile. The Berggruen heirs then put the sketchbook up for saleat Sotheby's in London, where the individual pages were sold on February 9, 2005.The main exhibition since 2004 focusing on Picasso's final years was held at the Gagosian Gallery in New York, in the spring of 2009. Thecatalogue and show were entitled Picasso Mosqueteros and included 52 paintings from 1964-1972 and a selection of etchings from the late1960s.The last image in the first edition of this catalogue was dated Feb. 21, 1973. A later image, of a musketeer, is now the last known work byPicasso before his death on April 8, 1973, at age 91. This drawing is dated March 10, 1973 (73-003).

Condition: Good. 2nd edition. 9 1/8 x 12 1/4 inches. 23 x 31 cm. Cloth in dust-jacket. 440 pp. 1206 works described and reproduced. 8 color plates. This second edition of Nazi Occupation, 1940-1944 was published in January, 2013. There are now 440 pages as opposed to 400 pages in the first edition of 1999, with 8 new color plates. There are many corrections, additions and revisions. Titles are made more descriptive and when a number of works in a series have the same title, they are numbered sequentially, to facilitate referencing a work with the same title in the same chronological series. Some works were inadvertently omitted from the first edition, which had been included in Zervos or in the Musée Picasso catalogues. These are now included. A number of works formerly in the collection of Marie-Thérèse Walter, unknown to Zervos, were also not included in the first edition. These were first described and reproduced in the 1973 exhibition catalogue Une Collection Picasso by the Galerie Jan Krugier in Genève. Some of these have seen been subsequently resold at public auctions and the sales are noted. Many entries have been updated in light of descriptions at public sales at the major auction houses since 1999, as well as from museum exhibition catalogues. The most important auctions were those of the collection of Dora Maar (born Henriette Theodora Markovitch (November 22, 1907 - July 16, 1997), Picasso's companion from 1936 to 1943. The Maar auctions were held in Paris on October 27, 28 and 29, 1998. The sale of Oct. 27-28 had the title Les Picasso de Dora Maar and the one on Oct. 29 had the title Les Livres de Dora Maar, Autographes et Documents. The sales were conducted by PIASA and J. K. Mathias at the Maison de la Chimie, under the sub-title: Succession de Madame Markovitch. Dora Maar apparently kept the works that Picasso gave her to the end of her life and she had a vast collection. Works from these sales are designated as either Maar Succession or Maar Livres. This latter sale contained the celebrated Eaux-fortes originales pour des textes de Buffon, in which Picasso made 42 ink and wash drawings in the copy of the publication that he gave to Dora Maar on January 24, 1943 (pp. 43-023). Until now these drawings could only be seen in the limited edition Henri Jonquières publication of 1957 entitled 40 dessins de Picasso en marge du Buffon. The Maar Succession sale included numerous small unique mixed media works and paper cut-outs. There are also sculpture and drawings on unusual materials, including bone, terracotta and matchbox lids and bottoms.
