Printed by Ewha Munhwasa and published from Suwon, with a U.S. distribution address in Cresskill, New Jersey. Thesis presented to Trinity College… in the USA for a Doctorate Philosophy of Religion. The work compares core doctrines of Buddhism and Christianity, with sections on the Four Noble Truths, salvation theology, and "Buddhism in America," plus charts such as "The Theory of Mind-Only and the Theory of Karma." Endorsed on the prelims by R. Holmquist (United Theological Seminary). Brown faux-leather hardcover with bright gilt; clean, tight copy. Dr. Pyo Im-jong (Dharma name Do-cheol, honorific Beop-hae) is a Korean Seon (Zen) monk, educator, and comparative-religion scholar born August 25, 1942 in Jinyang, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea. Ordained at Beomeosa under Master Idongheon, he spent 13 years in monastic training halls before taking on leadership and teaching roles within the Jogye Order (including central administrative and propagation posts). He later founded the Seongbul Zen Center (Seongbulsa) in New York, served as editor-publisher of The American Buddhist Newspaper (1985-1988), and lectured internationally (including the University of Münster, Germany). Dr. Pyo earned his Ph.D. in Religious Studies (1988) at Trinity (USA); his dissertation—Buddhism and Christianity: A Comparison, underpins this volume. He has compiled Buddhist legal/ritual works, produced ~20 films on Buddhist cultural history, and received numerous awards, including top prizes in national Buddhist chant competitions at Korea University and Dongguk University. Areas of focus: Seon (Zen) practice and pedagogy; Buddhist-Christian comparative theology; propagation, chant, and Buddhist cultural history.
