L'opera del medico alessandrino fu scritta verso la fine del XV secolo e per tutto il secolo successivo fu la farmacopea pi? consultata in numerosi paesi europei. Pubblicata nel 1494 a Pavia per la prima volta Ë divisa in quindici parti ed Ë basata sugli insegnamenti di Mesue, ricca quindi di arabismi; tratta di unguenti, olii, erbe, medicamenti e terapie. Il Lumen, pubblicato a Torino nel 1492 in princeps, fu scritto da De Augustis, medico di Tortona o Vercelli, nel XIV sec. ricavando da manoscritti dei secoli precedenti: d? la descrizione dei metodi di preparazioni delle varie forme farmaceutiche e per ognuna illustra svariati esempi. Molto ampia la trattazione delle pillole che evidentemente erano considerate una forma farmaceutica molto importante per la somministrazione orale. In esso Ë contenuta anche una delle prime ricette conosciute per la preparazione del Marzapane. Paolo Soardi di Bergamo Ë invece autore della terza opera (anch'essa del XIV secolo) che presenta le ricette in ordine alfabetico, a testimonianza del suo pragmatismo di medico-speziale. Da segnalare che Soardi fu il primo farmacista italiano a parlare della propria professione. Bell'esemplare. Sono presenti alcune annotazioni a inchiostro bruno soprattutto al frontespizio e colophon con cassature.
