El presente libro trata, en forma casi exhaustiva, de los detalles constructivos de la Arquitectura Popular de Mallorca. "Arquitectura popular" es lo que nace directamente del pueblo y no ha faltado quien la ha definido como "la arquitectura sin arquitecto"; pero habría que adobar la cuestión de a quién llamamos arquitecto, porque en los trabajos de construcción hay siempre alguien que los dirije, aunque sea la misma persona que los ejecuta, cuando coincide que es inteligente y experimentada. "Arquitectura vernacular" viene a ser lo mismo que arquitectura popular, pero referida a determinada región o comarca. Y hay otro concepto parecido pero no igual que es el de "arquitectura rural", que es la que responde a necesidades de las explotaciones agrícolas. En el caso de la Isla de Mallorca, existe aún el concepto de "arquitectura semi-rural" que es la que vemos en los edificios de habitación situados en los pueblos, que no es exactamente la de las cases de possessió, pero tampoco la que domina en la ciudad.
