- - - "Imagination and Dream. Because of the significant time he spent in France, Italy, Spain, England, India, Egypt, and Norway, the worldliness of this Swedish artist sets him apart from all others. Trained in the tradition of the English landscape painters, Lundgren (1815-75) was known predominantly for his watercolors set in exotic locales. Various essays focus on his experiences in each of these countries, especially his time as a reporter on the war in India and as an illustrator for Queen Victoria of England. Also included is a complete numbered catalog of his works displayed in the exhibition. This book is in Swedish except the essay by Delia Millar: Watercolours Painted by Egron Lundgren for Queen VictoriaÆs Theatrical Album., Swedish/ English, Year1995, Illust. B/W43, Illust. Having selected five themes, this intriguing internationally oriented exhibition attempts to follow these themes back throughout the history of art to rediscover their mythological roots. Drawing from the collections of both the National Museum and the Modern Museum in Stockholm, this exhibition presents over 350 works of art that deal with one of the main themes. These include: the Great Mother, Time, Heroism, Technology, and themes pertaining to artists, such as the Muses, Rembrandt, the history of poetry, Faust, and Dionysus. An enthralling journey that illuminates the striking commonalities in the art of all time periods, and therefore also sheds light on the similarities between humans in all ages of history. , Swedish, Year1983, Illust. The tradition of fine book craftmanship and the opportunities for departure from these traditions have been an important source of inspiration for this artist. Focusing on one-of-a kind or limited edition art books, WeilÆs use of defined formats and unexpected juxtapositions of materials provide the poetry in her work with a combination of intimacy and focus. The strength of her metaphors stems from the meeting between personal everyday experiences and a close study of the great classics of literature. Each form for a book she creates pays homage to the author, whether it be Joyce, Rumi, or Sophocles. This catalog contains beautiful illustrations of her innovative and varied work, each of which is accompanied by an explanation written by the artist herself. , English/ Swedish, Year1997, Illust.
