[17 articles are in Hindi] India is the largest democratic country in the world, where women folk constitute almost half population. Women have been deprived of various kinds of opportunities by our traditional society for the past several centuries. Discrimination against women is commonly observed in reaping the benefits of socioeconomic development, participation in community activity, various national development programs aimed at their upliftment and empowerment. The status of women in Uttarakhand is particularly low although women have played a very important role in the economy of the state for generations. Uttarakhand is primarily a money order economy where men migrate in research of work and the task of not only looking after the family and trudging long distances for water but are also left to farm the land. Women in Uttarakhand have pioneered several mass movements across the state and have also played a pivotal role in the formation of the state. They have visual a state where they can effectively guide the development of the region in a way that benefits all and is sustainable. Women in Uttarakhand are slowly but surely beginning to play a major role in governance. This book focuses on the Empowerment of Rural Women : Status, Challenges and Solutions. It includes 37 articles and research papers, which discuss all the dimensions of women empowerment. This book will be fruitful to policy makers, administrators and interested research scholars.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: New. Contents: 1. Introduction. 2. Luni Basin: Geo-morphology. 3. Luni Basin: Climate. 4. Luni Basin: Stream Flow Characteristics. 5. Land Use Land Cover of Luni Basin. 6. Physical Habitat Characteristics. 7. Physico-chemical Water Quality Status. 8. Ichthyofaunal Diversity. 9. Ecosystem Services: Luni River. 10. Conservation and Management. Glossary. References. River Luni originates from the Aravalli ranges in Pushkar Valley near Ajmer in Rajasthan and after traversing a course of 511 km in Rajasthan state, it finally dissipates in the marshy land of Rann of Kutch, Gujarat state. This river forms the bulk of the Indian arid zone and is known as the 'Maruganga of Thar Desert' in western Rajasthan. The word "Luni" means salt, derived from Lavanaravi or Lavanavati, which means salt river in Sanskrit. The river water of Luni is saline, especially in the mid and downstream sections. As this is an ephemeral river, therefore flows only for 3-4 months during the monsoon season. The flow of river entirely depends upon the rainfall in the origin and catchment area. The total basin catchment area of Luni is 70202.58 km2 (India-WRIS) and it is bounded by the Ganga River Basin in the east, Shekhawati River Basin in the north, the Sabarmati and West Banas River in the south and the Thar Desert on the west side of the basin. The left bank drainage of the river Luni is more extensive than on the right bank. The entire basin lies inside Rajasthan and extends over parts of Ajmer, Barmer, Jalore, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, Rajsamand, Sirohi and Udaipur districts. The systematic investigations of aquatic fauna and resources of the Indian arid region in a chronological way show that the ichthyofaunal diversity of Thar Desert region is an admixture of the Himalayas (western), the Aravalli hills, Peninsular India and the components of Middle East. The Luni River provides multiple ecosystem services, which are considered a key to attaining sustainable development in the region. It supports the livelihood of dependent local community by acting as a water source for consumption, agriculture and sustaining the biodiversity in the Thar Desert region of India.

There is no scientific technique available to forecast the occurrence of an earthquake with a reasonable degree of accuracy with respect to time, space and magnitude. But the impact of earthquake hazard can be mitigated with proper town planning and design of dwellings. The seismicity and seismotectonics study is the first step in this direction. Delhi and its environ is also affected by earthquakes due to its own tectonic set up as well as that of Himalayan region. Himalayan thrust system emanating seismic hazard to Delhi region has been studied by several researchers. In this work, an attempt has been made to assess the seismicity, seismotectonics and seismic wave attenuation characteristics of Delhi and its environ, using seismic telemetry network data of this region. The results shall be useful in seismic hazard analysis of this region.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 180 pp. Englisch.
