Myriam war sechs Jahre alt, als 2011 die Demonstrationen gegen den syrischen Präsidenten Baschar al Assad in Aleppo begannen. Kurze Zeit später fielen die ersten Schüsse - Syrien befand sich in einem grausamen Bürgerkrieg, den ganz besonders die Bewohner der wichtigen Wirtschaftsmetropole Aleppo zu spüren bekamen. Besonders der Osten der Stadt glich bald Geisterruinen. Ein Tagebuch, das Anfangs überwiegen ganz normale Einträge, in denen Myriam ihr Leben mit der Familie und mit ihren Freunden schildert, Besuche auf dem Markt, Familienfeiern, Beschreibungen ihres Viertels - ein glückliches, unbeschwertes Leben, schildert. Nach und nach mischen sich Schüsse in den Alltag. Verwandte werden entführt oder sterben, Nachbarn fliehen. Aber immer noch spielen die Familie und die Schule eine wichtige Rolle. Schließlich findet man in den Tagebucheinträgen fast nur noch schlimme Ereignisse. Myriam und ihre Familie sind gläubige Christen, die sich auch durch ihre Mitarbeit bei den "Maristes bleus" aktiv einbringen. Auch im Krieg spielt die Religion der Familie eher eine untergeordnete Rolle, man hilft sich gegenseitig und leidet zusammen, gleich welcher Religion man angehört. Die einzelnen Abschnitte sind recht kurz, selten mehr als eine Seite, oft nur wenige Zeilen. Die Sprache ist sehr einfach, eben einem Kind entsprechend. So wirkt das Buch sehr authentisch. Myriam und ihre Familie sind nicht aus Syrien geflohen, sondern leben noch in Aleppo.
