Light pen…cil notes in gutter of Introductory page indicate this is from the famous Thomas Jefferson Fitzpatrick library, noted as being the largest and finest library of biology/botany in private hands in the world in the mid 20th century. Fitzpatrick was, at one point, employed by the Iowa State Historical Society as a "collector." Fitzpatrick was one of, if not the first, employee of Lamoni College in Iowa and noted as professor, later librarian and briefly as president.
