Includes six pages of Subscribers. 22 illustrations include color frontispiece, several in-text family arms. full page lithographs and plates of Autographs. In original publisher's textured and blind-patterned brown cloth with gilt lettering and blind graphics on spine. Boards and spine are heavily faded and with stains and discolorations. Edges at head and tail of board spine have several small closed tears. Fore-edge corners are bumped and tips are rubbed through. Front paste-down has inked notes, inside hinge is cracked - see photo. Back hinge is also cracked and back papers have several small stains. Page edges and text pages are age-toned. Hinges are cracked at pp. 224-225. Some smudges in the margins. Foxing is intermittent. A crack to the rear joint at the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Very Good. book.

The inscription reads "The Most Noble The Marquess of Donegal with the kindest respect and gratitude of the Author, Bella Hill, Carrickfergus, 1 Oct 1857". Gilt lettering to spine slightly dulled. Extremities of boards slightly rubbed. Front hinge cracked internally. Light tanning to pastedowns. Light offsetting to pages opposite litho plates. Light creasing to the top corners of some pages where they have been flicked through. A tight well-preserved copy in a very good condition. "George Hamilton Chichester, 3rd Marquess of Donegall KP GCH PC (10 February 1797 - 20 October 1883), styled Viscount Chichester until 1799 and Earl of Belfast between 1799 and 1844, was an Anglo-Irish landowner, courtier and politician. He served as Vice-Chamberlain of the Household from 1830 to 1834, as well as from 1838 to 1841, and as Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard between 1848 and 1852. Ennobled in his own right in 1841, he was also Lord Lieutenant of Antrim from 1841 to 1883 and was made a Knight of St Patrick in 1857.". Inscribed by Author.
