They began to take the place of three-dimensional monuments and effigies in stone or wood. Due to their nature of being made of hard latten or brass and being let into the pavings they did not obstruct areas of the church and therefore speedily became a favourite style of sepulchral memorial. There was a revival of interest in monumental brasses in the Victorian era. In a half cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, sound with slight rubbing, particularly to the head and tail of spine and extremities. Spine label is rubbed as are the paper covered boards. Prior owner's ink inscription to recto of front endpaper Peter, from Moethen 1953 . Remnants of stamp to front pastedown. Same armorial stamp of double headed eagle to title page and has offset slightly to verso of front blank. Front endpaper is slightly creased. Internally, firmly bound.
