Original bevelled green cloth boards with gilt vignette to front, titled in gilt to spine, hinge starting at pp96, light foxing to prelims, handwritten prize presentation (for Industry) on front blank dated 1872. Royal Navy Lieutenant E. D. Young went to Africa in search of David Livingstone who had been reported to be lost while searching for the origins of the Nile. Henry Faulkner joined the expedition mainly to hunt. His shooting of elephant, buffalo and hippo in what is now Malawi and around Lake Nyasa are included in this volume. The author had been with Lvingstone on his second expedition to Lake Malawi in 1863 and volunteered to lead an expedition to determine whether the allegation of Livingstone's murder were true. A pleasing copy of this scarce volume relating to Livingstone. Size: 8vo.
