First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition. Limited Edition. No. 504. Original publisher's dark blue cloth binding with gilt lettering on spine. Top edge gilt. Several leaves unopened. 7" x 9 3/4." Pages lxii, [1] 2-357, complete. Introduction by K. G. Davies in front. Select Bibliography and Index in back. Fourteen additional pages in back list the names of Hudson's Bay Record Society Members and Subscribing Libraries. Pages are virtually pristine and intact except for light age toning and slight wear to extremities. Covers are virtually pristine and intact except for slightly bumped corners and slight discoloration and residue on spine. A Very Good copy. No. XX in The Hudson's Bay Record Society series. Edited by E. E. Rich who was assisted by A. M. Johnson. A transcription of the Hudson's Bay Company's "Copy Booke" which has a relatively arbitrary timespan of 1688-1696. In the Introduction, Davies clarifies that the Copy Booke was so named because the first and last entries were dated 1688 and 1696, respectively. Davies says the Copy Booke actually includes entries preceding 1688 (perhaps all the way back to 1682) and following 1696. Davies also describes contemporary events and the historical context of the late seventeenth century. Four appendices follow the main transcription of the Copy Booke. The appendices are "Appendix A: Governors, Deputy Governors and Committees Elected 1687-96," "Appendix B: The Originall & Trebled Joint Stock of the Hudson's Bay Company as It Was Declared by the Committee of the Said Company, the 3d of Septembr. 1690," "Appendix C: The Case of the Hudsons Bay Company in England in Reference to the Canada Company in France," and "Appendix D: Ships Sailing Between London and Hudson Bay 1687-96." Front colophon: "This copy is No. 504 of a limited Edition which is issued only to subscribers to the Hudson's Bay Record Society.".
