[EN] Folio (56 x 38,2 cm), loose as issued in publisher's chemise and slipcase. Seven Maxims by Friedrich Hölderlin translated into English by Paul Schmidt. 5 double-page black lithographs by Robert Mangold. The plates were printed in Paris by the Atelier Franck Bordas. From the edition limited to 60 copies, with this one of 40 numbered copies on papier Arches, signed by the artist and the translator. If minimalism is defined as a radical restriction of the artist's gesture, Robert Mangold presents a more complex reality, combining the primacy of painting with monumentality. Opening up new possibilities - a renewed sense of freedom - he places perception in the forefront and refuses demonstrative effects through a great economy of means. For Seven Maxims, sobriety, a key concept in Hölderlin, is fully respected. His double-page illustrations display a series of elongated circles and segments of circles, contained within a more or less approximate rectangle. Literature : Robert Mangold, Online Print Catalogue Raisonné, n°1996.01.01 ; Robert Mangold: Prints 1968-1998, a catalogue raisonné, Parasol Press, 2000, n°RM56.01. This refined color silkscreen from 1988 is a strong example of Robert Mangold?s mature minimalist language, in which geometry, line, and surface are reduced to their essential elements. The composition centers on an asymmetrical trapezoid rendered in soft beige tones, intersected by carefully placed linear divisions. These lines do not merely outline the form but actively structure the surrounding space, creating a subtle tension between openness and containment. *** The work is hand-signed and numbered in pencil by Robert Mangold at the center bottom. Executed as a color silkscreen, it reflects the artist?s precise and methodical approach to printmaking, closely aligned with his painted works. *** Sheet size: 46 x 37 cm. *** Robert Mangold (born 1937, United States) is one of the leading figures of American Minimalism. Associated with artists such as Sol LeWitt and Agnes Martin, Mangold developed a distinctive abstract vocabulary that merges minimalist reduction with references to architecture and classical form. His work is held in major museum collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Mangold?s prints are especially valued for their clarity, restraint, and intellectual rigor, making them highly sought after by collectors of postwar and contemporary art. # Authenticity and provenance guaranteed. # Delivered with a certificate of authenticity. # Worldwide shipping, tax-friendly to the USA and EU countries. # Custom handmade framing available on request.
