EXCERPT: Preface - The purpose of this book is to examine, historically and developmentally, mass media systems in Canada. This examination flows out of university curricular studies that began in Canada following World War II and accelerated dramatically during the past quarter century. It is important to point out that such studies are not necessarily recognized as a developed and clearly focussed discipline: rather communication studies is a developing area of study. The essential problem with this definitional difficult revolves around the many research facets of the road area of communication. For example, these facets include engineering, law, journalism, psychology, sociology, history, economics, and political science, among others. The focus of this book, in the light of the developmental concept, is in the traditional social sciences rather than in engineering or the law . . . Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
