Two pages on Outlook stationery to a Mrs. James Edward Leach of Andover Mass. Harper relates that TR will not give his permission for an unnamed project that the Patent Office says needs TR's release. One can only speculate on what this person had dreamt up that no doubt used the former President's name or effigy. Still it is signed by Harper, TR's British born secretary that served him from approx. 1910 through 1914.…

Signed by Roosevelt, Dec 1896, and gift inscription dated a year late, 1897. Pictoral cloth boards showing a lasso on the front board and a decorated red lettered spine showing a pair of stirrups. Top edge gilt with uncut bottom and fore edges. Internally clean with occasional minor browning, and front free endpaper semi detached. Bumping to corners and a small split to the top of the spine as well as browning of the boards. Good. Roosevelt, the cow boy president of America who set up the National Park system, talking about his time setting up a ranch in Dakota and the adventures he had there, from difficulties from wild animals, the struggles of winter, raising cattle, fending off intruders be they cowboys or indigenous people. He also speaks of how he was briefly a deputy sheriff and tracked down horse thieves, and hunting various game from elk to bear. Roosevelt was very sickly as a child, suffering from asthma and other occasional illnesses, and as a result his father pushed him to take up boxing and running, to build up his stamina and fend off other children.
