Dust Jacket Condition: dj. First Edition. [Chicano Literature] Dalton, Roque. Miguel Marmol. Willimantic, CT: Curbstone Press, 1987. First English language edition, first printing, hardcover. 503 pages. Original Dust Jacket features sketched portraits of Miguel Marmol in his youth and in adulthood. Back cover features an additional black and white photograph of Roque Dalton and Miguel Marmol in Prague. Miguel Marmol, born in San Salvador in 1905, was a Chicano revolutionary in the first decades of the 20th century. This testimony, recorded by Dalton, describes the growth and development of the workers movement as witnessed by Marmol and the communist party in El Salvador and Guatemala. Passages cover vivid details of the brutality of the Martinez dictatorship and the re-emergence of the worker's movement after Martinez was ousted, also depict the 1932 uprising and mass execution in El Salvador, where 30,000 were killed and where Marmol solidified his reputation as a revolutionary. The book also documents Marmol's imprisonment in Cuba and his return to El Salvador. The first English edition includes a retrospective interview with Marmol conducted by the translators in Cuba in 1986. Dust Jacket is vibrant and in very good condition. Boards have very minor foxing around the edges. Textblock is tight and very neat. Overall, in very good condition. Marmol is one of the most important revolutionary figures in El Salvador's history who served as an inspiration for several generations of Chicano revolutionaries advocating for freedom.
