Lacking the jacket. Unusual manufacturing with the text and images printed on only one side of each leaf, the fore edges unopened. Color illustrations by Gladys Rourke Blackwood throughout. Unpaginated. 6" x 7.75". A real horse girl's horse girl, Marguerite Henry (19021997) came to be known for her animal-themed children's books. Geraldine Belinda (1942), however, is one of her earlier works featuring a human girl, Geraldine. Geraldine, a bit of a snoot, sets out to spend her 25¢ allowance. In an act of extreme anti-social avoidance, her newly acquired toys spill out of their package as she runs away from other children. Those same kids show up to the inconsolable Geraldine's house to return her missing items. She invites them in to play, presumably out of guilt. The story ends, "Don't put on airs when you have pennies to spendfor you never can tell how the story will end." .
