Summary The study of the villae of the Roman and Late Antique period is well established in western Europe, but, up to now, little has been done to explore this type of building in depth in the rest of the Empire, in particular in the Roman provinces of the Balkan peninsula and along the Danube. This volume, which draws on research presented at the first international workshop organized by the HAEMUS International Research Network (Villeneuve d'Ascq, France, 10-12 Novembre 2021), aims to redress the balance by drawing together papers focused on Roman villae both at an Empire-wide level, and more specifically, within South-Eastern Europe. Through thematic syntheses and case studies, the volume is able both to shed new light on the villae of in the central part of the Later Roman Empire, as well as to highlight new discoveries made in recent decades.
