In the 1950s, land bank loans represented 12% of the number and amount of farm mortgages recorded, increasing to 19% in 1956. The average size of the Federal land bank loan made in the 1950s was larger than that for other major lender groups, other than insurance companies. By the end of this period, land banks were refinancing more loans than they were making for new purchases. The authorâs analysis shows that land banks have typically charged lower interest rates than other lenders, and the terms of their loans are usually fairly long, with about 25% having terms of 30 years or more. Overall, this book provides a valuable resource of information on the land bank farm mortgage loan system from the 1950s through the mid-1950s.
