A collection of fables originating from Roman fabulist Gaius Julius Phaedrus, known for being the first versifier of Aesop's fables into Latin, shown in this collection. With explanatory notes.Born in the 1st century AD, not much was known about Phaedrus until the discovery of a few of his manuscripts during the Renaissance, when his popularity soared.Illustrated with a frontispiece and thirteen vignettes from Durand.Written in Latin.Register runs a8, b4, c8, d4, A8, B4, C8, D4, E8, F4, G8, H4, I8, K4, L8, M4, N1, N3-8, O4, P8, Q4, R8, S4, T8, V4, X8, Y4, Z4, Aa8, Bb4, Cc5.The missing leaf containing pages 147-8 [N2] is commonly lacking with this work, and occurs between an appendix and a note from the editor, possibly containing a blank or title.Slipcase was made by Eric Sweet, a keen collector of private press and fables.
