First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Tan paper boards with mounted color cover illustration. Oblong quarto. 22pp of text plus 11 full-page color plates. No dust jacket. Illustrated by Freddie Langeler. The story of a "wedding" of two small Dutch children with verses by Willy du Saar and charming color plates by noted Dutch illustrator Freddie Langeler. The illustrations show preparations for the wedding, cleaning up of the yard, arrival of the guests (including a monkey in a sidecar), the wedding banquet, and other scenes. Johanna Frederika Langeler (1900-48), better known as Freddie, was a self taught artist. Although a painter she received much more recognition for the illustrations she made for over 100 children s books and magazines. Many of these images would be printed as postcards. In 1926 she married the cartoonist Eelco Martinus ten Harsen van der Beek, and they sometimes collaborated on producing comics. Langeler also illustrate a number of comic strips on her own starting with Bobby den Speurder. A good to very good copy with some soiling and edgewear to the covers. There is a small stain mark to the rear cover at the bottom. The text is very good with light wear. A number of the color plates have some foxing and spotting to the margins, particularly the last one. Scarce.
