Born in Colorado in 1931, Salas grew up in foster homes in the Bay Area. This award-winning novel is based on his experience at fifteen in a jail farm and as an accomplished boxer later on. Brutal and powerful writing. 351 p., unmarked. Green and gold lettering on white covers is somewhat fading. Heavy handed dedication on the front leaf doesn't seem to be from the author.
