Condition: Nuevo. 240 pp. En 1943, el judío austriaco Moriz Scheyer, escondido en un convento francés, comenzó a escribir Un superviviente, la narración de la angustiosa, agitada y a veces casi milagrosa peripecia de su persecución a través de la convulsa Europa ocupada. Scheyer era un importante periodista literario y editor en Viena antes de la anexión de Austria en 1938; formaba parte de círculos intelectuales en los que se relacionó con importantes figuras de la época, como Arthur Schnitzler, Joseph Roth o Gustav Mahler, y mantuvo una amistad cercana con Stefan Zweig. En este revelador testimonio, emotivo y crítico a la vez, el autor vuelca su ingenio mordaz para hacer un recuento de sus experiencias durante la guerra: su exilio a París justo antes de que los nazis ocuparan la capital francesa, su paso por un campo de concentración, el contacto con la Resistencia y su vida clandestina en un asilo para enfermas mentales a cargo de una congregación de monjas franciscanas. Tras la muerte de Scheyer, en 1949, su hijastro, Konrad Singer, disgustado por la denuncia genérica del libro a todo el pueblo alemán, lo destruyó. O eso pretendió. En el transcurso de una mudanza, los hijos de Singer encontraron una copia en papel carbón del texto. Guardado en una carpeta en la que figuraba la dirección de la primera esposa de Stefan Zweig en América, el manuscrito había sobrevivido a la destrucción.
