Halbleinen, Rücken fehlt, der Buchrücken ist durch sauberes Bekleben mit Stoff repariert worden, Buchblock liegt lose zwischen den Deckeln, private Widmung auf vorderem inneren Einbanddeckel, Titelseite lose und mit mehreren Zahlen und Namen in Tinte beschrieben, 3 cm langes Loch in der Titelseite, nahezu alle Bilder wurden mit Buntstift nachcolloriert, Seite 77 von unten fast bis zur Hälfte eingerissen, einige Seiten etwas fingerfleckig, mäßiger Zustand.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Neither author nor translator from German to English is credited, nor is there a date of publication given. A synopsis of the German work does correspond to a perusal of the contents of this volume even though an introd. by G.T. Bedell claims that "The following and useful story was first read in French; and the idea immediately suggested it-self to my mind, that, with some alterations, to make it convey lessons of clear adn decided evangelical truth, it would be a very interesting little work for the libraries of Sunday Shcools." One assumes that G.T. Bedell adapted the story to some extent. John Ritchie began publishing in the 1880s and the company continues to this day. The information given by former owner about herself given on front end page includes the date of Dec. 9, 1925; Victorian engravings by several uncredited artists. The claim that the story was taken from a French rather than German source suggests this might have been published during or not long after after WWI, when Germanophobia was common. 127 p., plus catalog, clean and unmarked although strong paper is foxed as well as mildly age-toned; binding tight; unfaded red boards are stamped with picture of young lady reading to young boy, with edging of ochre and green nasturtiums in Art Nouveau style, albeit restrained. Similar decoration on spine. Light bumping of corners and slight rubbing at crown and foot of spine. No. d.j.--perhaps issued without.
